Claremont Meadows is a residential suburb located 45 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the Greater Western Sydney region. Forming a part of the local government area of the City of Penrith, the suburb is found between Kingswood to the west and St Marys to the east. Claremont Meadows is a pleasant residential district notable for its extensive parkland.
The traditional owners of the area that makes up Claremont Meadows today are the Aboriginal Darug tribe. Following European settlement, Governor Macquarie granted a large allotment of land as a wedding present to Mary Bligh in 1810. The property was named Coallee, and was later subdivided and renamed Claremont. Formerly an agricultural area, the suburb was redeveloped for residential housing in 1984 and has steadily grown in population since.
Primarily a residential suburb, Claremont Meadows features a small selection of commercial shops, including an IGA located on Sunflower Drive, adjacent to Claremont Meadows Community Centre. Claremont Creek runs through the centre of the suburb`s western half and South Creek acts as Claremont Meadows` natural eastern border.
