Leonay is a riverside suburb located 58 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb is found on the western side of the Nepean River at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Largely a residential suburb, Leonay also features a prominent golf course and enjoys proximity to the Blue Mountains National Park. The suburb is positioned between Glenbrook to the west and Regentville to the east (across the Nepean River).
Following European settlement, for a time Leonay was considered a part of neighbouring Emu Plains. Leo Buring operated a vineyard in the area, named Leonay, up until his death in 1961. The vineyard was named after Buring and his wife Nay. Following the vineyard`s closure, the land was subdivided and the suburb began to develop as a residential area in 1965. The suburb was formally gazetted as Leonay in 1974.
Leonay Golf Club is located at 1 Leonay Parade. The course meanders through the suburb with prominent portions found in both the north and the south of Leonay. The suburb enjoys leafy streetscapes and is bound by the Blue Mountains National Park at its southern end.
