Werrington is a residential suburb located 49 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the Greater Western Sydney region. Found between Werrington County to the north and Kingswood to the south, Werrington is home to Western Sydney University`s Werrington North campus and enjoys an extensive network of open green spaces on its outer rim. The suburb forms part of the local government area of the City of Penrith.
Following European settlement, the first land grant in the area that makes up Werrington today was made in 1806 to Mary King, a daughter of Governor Philip Gidley King. Mary took possession of the property in 1827 and used it as a farming estate with her husband Robert Copeland Lethbridge. The estate`s house was named Werrington, and still stands today on Rugby Street.
Western Sydney University`s Werrington campuses are based in the suburb`s south, not far from Werrington train station. Werrington Lake Reserve is found in the suburb`s northwest on Werrington Creek, and the Colonial Golf and Foot Golf Course is located in Werrington`s northeast.
